Women in Coastal Fieldwork Panel

This panel brought together WICGE members, including Prof. Ana Vila Concejo, Associate Prof. Sarah Hamylton, and Associate Prof. Hannah Power, who shared their experiences as women in marine science, particularly in fieldwork. The event, held at the University of Sydney, attracted a highly engaged audience. Prof. Maria Byrne expertly chaired the panel and contributed her own global fieldwork insights, enriching the discussion.

The panel discussion also highlighted the latest publication by WICGE members in Coastal Futures, titled “The Challenges of Fieldwork: Improving the Experience for Women in Coastal Sciences.” This publication served as a key reference during the event, sparking a thoughtful conversation on the obstacles women face in fieldwork and how to foster more inclusive and supportive environments in coastal research.
