PhD funding in the form of a research stipend is available to a highly qualified candidate interested in pursuing a research career in Coastal Engineering.  All nationalities are welcome to apply: the research stipend is contingent on the successful candidate being admitted to the PhD program at UNSW and receiving either an International Postgraduate Research Scholarship/Tuition Fee Waiver, or Australian Postgraduate Award (dependent on the applicant’s nationality). This PhD stipend is available for a 3-year period and funded at the level of an Australian Research Training Program ($26,682 AU for 2017).

Candidates must have completed an Honours 1 equivalent Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Coastal Engineering or a closely related discipline in Oceanography/Geoscience. Strong English skills (written and oral) are required. Research projects are available in a variety of areas including sediment transport, numerical modelling, reef-top hydrodynamics and the design of coastal structures in reef environments.

The successful candidate will be based primarily at the Water Research Laboratory (WRL), located in Sydney’s Northern Beaches (www.wrl.unsw.edu.au). WRL is the leading water laboratory in Australia and hosts a dynamic group of research and professional staff.
