Dr Silke Tas

Position: Postdoctoral Associate

Department: Earth and Environment

University/Institute/Company: Boston University

I am currently working as a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Department of Earth & Environment at Boston University. Together with a team from Boston University (BU), Virginia Institute of Marine Science (VIMS), Woods Hole Group (WHG) and Buzzards Bay Coalition (BBC), we are working on the Lower Buzzards Bay Sedimentation and Gooseberry Causeway Impact Study. My current focus is on the inlet morphodynamics of Slocum River Embayment on various timescales, and its link to headland bypassing.
I did my PhD at Delft University of Technology, as part of the BioManCO project (Bio-Morphodynamic Modelling of Mangrove-mud Coasts). I studied chenier dynamics in the context of eroding mangrove-mud coasts, through field observations and numerical modelling.
Besides my research, I have always been a very active community member, e.g. during my PhD I was PhD representative and member of the PhD council. I also truly enjoy teaching and mentoring, and sharing my passion for our coastlines and research.
