Job Purpose

You will contribute specialist environmental economics and social science input to a NERC Green Infrastructure Innovation project that will create “A Decision Framework for Integrated Green Grey Infrastructure (IGGIframe)”. Specifically, the job requires expert knowledge in environmental economics and social science to work alongside two physical geographers (Dr Larissa Naylor and Dr Martin Coombes) who are leading the project in close collaboration with core project partners from key government agencies (see the project background below for more details). You will be expected to have specific skills and experience in carrying out environmental or ecological economics assessments comparing the costs and benefits of traditional approaches versus utilising green infrastructure, working with natural processes or ecosystem-based approaches to environmental problems. Specific experience in carrying out these assessments in coastal, estuarine or urban ecosystems is desirable.

The successful candidate will be expected to help design a critical success factors framework for assessing the combined environmental, ecological and engineering performance costs and benefits of adopting integrated green grey infrastructure approaches. A key responsibility will include carrying out environmental economics assessments and collecting social science data on selected case studies being developed by the project. The successful candidate will also be expected to contribute to the formulation and submission of applied outputs and research publications arising from the project, and to new research proposals as well as help manage and direct this complex and challenging project as opportunities allow.

Terms & Conditions

Salary will be on the University’s Research and Teaching Grade, level 6, £27,328 – £30,738 per annum pro rated if appropriate.

This position has funding for either 12 months at 0.8 fte (28 hours per week) or 9 months at 1.0 fte starting from 1 June 2016.

Interviews will be held week commencing 18 April 2016.

New entrants to the University will be required to serve a probationary period of 6 months.

The successful applicant will be eligible to join the Universities’ Superannuation Scheme. Further information regarding the scheme is available from the Superannuation Officer, who is also prepared to advise on questions relating to the transfer of Superannuation benefits.

All research and related activities, including grants, donations, clinical trials, contract research, consultancy and commercialisation are required to be managed through the University’s relevant processes (e.g. contractual and financial), in accordance with the University Court’s policies.
